Artists Talk: Tamsin Morse and Jo Chate with Jennifer Thatcher

Join us for an interview with artists Tamsin Morse and Jo Chate with Jennifer Thatcher, writer and curator.

Preceded by an informal introduction and walk around the exhibition with the artists, with some light refreshments.

Jennifer Thatcher is an art historian, critic and public programmes curator. She is currently a British Academy postdoctoral fellow at the University of Kent.  She holds an MA in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art and an AHRC-funded PhD from the University of Edinburgh, focusing on the history of the artist interview. She publishes regularly as an art critic, including in Art Quarterly, Art Monthly and ArtReview magazines, and was previously Managing Editor of contemporary magazine. She co-curated the Folkestone Book Festival in 2023; devised the public programmes for the 2014 and 2017 editions of the Folkestone Triennial; and was a co-curator of the 2016 Whitstable Biennale. She was Director of Talks at the ICA, London (2003–2010) and Course Leader for the Gap programme at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London (2021–2023).She collaborates regularly with Dr Lucia Farinati on artist interview-based research, including convening a session at the Association for Art History conference (2019); co-editing a section of the Journal of Art Historiography (December 2020); and co-editing a forthcoming volume on artist interviews, Theorising the Artist Interview (Routledge, autumn 2024). She is a member of the Association of Art Critics (AICA).


Tamsin Morse is a painter who completed a BA at the Slade, and an MA at Chelsea, Tamsin exhibits throughout the UK and internationally including in Istanbul, New York, Hong Kong and Berlin. She was represented by One in the Other gallery, London before taking some time away from the studio to raise a family.  Recent exhibitions: Studio 1.1 London (This Years Model), New Art Gallery Walsall, A Generous Space 2, WomXn with Fair art Fair at Unit 1 Gallery Workshop, by Jo Baring and Beth Greenacre; Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2021. Collections include The Government Art Collection, The New Art Gallery Walsall (purchased through a Generous Space 2), The Zabludowicz Collection, Timothy Taylor, The Open University and The University of the Arts, London, as well as many other private collections.

Upcoming exhibitions include a four person show at Studio 1.1, E2 in July 2024.



Jo Chate lives and works in London, she is a graduate of UCL, Kingston University and the Royal College of Art, London, receiving an MA in Painting. Her work has been included in numerous solo and group shows in the UK and internationally.
